The busy action that is the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament unfolded on Friday, and it’s not without the drama and chaos college basketball fans have come to expect from this event. A No.2 seed fell to a No.15 seed for the ninth time in tournament history, a No.3 seed had a good scare and there were plenty of matches that required extra time to decide the outcome.
By far the biggest game was Oral Roberts, No.15, who beat the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in overtime. ORU became the first No.15 seed since 2016 to dropkick a No.2 seed from the fork with his 75-72 victory. But there have been other notable developments that have not gone to chalk, including the No.12 seed from Oregon State which upset the No.5 seed from Tennessee and the No.5 seed. # 3 from Arkansas, getting everything she could handle from Colgate before bringing the Raiders out late.
Saturday, another marathon day is on the bridge with 16 games on the slate. The action peaks just after noon ET and features # 1 seeds Gonzaga and Michigan, as well as # 2 seeds from Alabama and Iowa.
