Priyanka Chopra’s interview with iconic talk show host Oprah Winfrey on Super Soul generated a lot of buzz. The main topic of conversation is Chopra’s recently published memoir Unfinished: A Memoir.

But memoirs, in which Chopra writes about her remarkable life, come from stories of her childhood, career, family, relationships and marriage. Thus, the conversation is quite uninhibited.

Here are five takeaways from the interview:

1. Priyanka Chopra firmly believes in God

During the interview, PeeCee said that as an Indian, she was exposed to almost all major religions and religious practices while growing up and that she believed in a higher power. She said during the interview: “In India it’s hard not to do it, you’re right. With the swirling number of religions living in the country… I grew up in a convent school. So I was aware of Christianity. My father sang in a mosque. I was aware of Islam. I grew up in a Hindu family. I was aware of this. Spirituality is such a big part of India that you cannot ignore it.

2. When his faith has been tested

It was the death of her father that tested Priyanka’s faith. She told Oprah in response to a question, “I was very angry. My relationship with God has changed a bit. But at the same time, I feel like God has helped me find and come out of salvation as well. But at that time he was tested. Oh man, I’ve been to all the temples to go to. I said all the prayers there was to be said. I met all the gods or women I needed to meet, all the doctors I needed to see. I took my dad to Singapore, New York, Europe, India, everywhere to do whatever I could to extend his life. It’s such a helpless feeling.

3. She was bullied and racially harassed at school

Priyanka revealed that she moved to Boston, United States, when she was 16. There she was the target of racial intimidation. She told Oprah, “High school is tough anyway. Being of legal age, understanding your body as a woman. At the same time, being devalued for something I couldn’t change. I didn’t know it was something I should feel embarrassed about.

4. How Priyanka judged the book by its cover for Nick Jonas

During the interview, Oprah brought up the subject of Nick and how Priyanka wrote in her memoir that her mother “dreamed” of him. Priyanka said the first time she looked at Nick she might have “judged the book by the cover.” She added: “Maybe I judged the book by the cover. Honestly, I didn’t take it very seriously when Nick texted me. I was 35, I said to myself: “I want to get married, I want to have children. He’s in his twenties, I don’t know if that’s something he would like to do ”. I did this to myself for a while, until I actually dated him.

5. Priyanka regrets not standing up for herself when she was abused by filmmakers

Priyanka opened up about her struggles in the early days of the film industry which involved a director forcing her to do a dance performance. She revealed that due to the fact that she was a newcomer, she couldn’t find the courage to voice her opinion. She said, “I was so scared. I was new to the entertainment business and you always say to girls that “you don’t want to have a reputation for being difficult to work”. So I worked within the system.
