The pop star and actress took to “CBS Sunday Morning” in depth while promoting her new documentary “Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil” in an interview that aired last weekend.

Lovato has spoken of suffering from an eating and substance abuse disorder before and now she explains how – even when she was recovering from these things before her overdose – she was “miserable.”

These days, she says she is in control of everything from her finances to what she eats and takes full responsibility for the overdose, which she says has caused multiple strokes and brain damage.

“Regardless of what other people may have said or done, my actions put me in the seat that is in front of you today,” she told CBS. “Unfortunately, no one can answer for my overdose except me.”

Lovato said she was not completely sober, but rather “sober Californian”. She still drinks from time to time and smokes marijuana.

“I really don’t feel comfortable explaining the parameters of my recovery to people,” she said. “Because I don’t want people to look at my security settings and think that’s what works for them … because it might not be.”

At this point, Lovato says, she’s in a much better place.

“I feel so good,” she said. “I feel more joy in my life than I have ever felt because I don’t calm or diminish any part of myself.”
