Rocket league Players will soon be able to get their hands on official Formula 1 and NASCAR machines as the hugely popular car-based game enters its third season this spring.
For those who don’t know Rocket league, it’s basically indoor football – but with cars – and demolition derby. Players gather in teams of no more than four and, with rocket-powered cars, attempt to beat their opponents in five minutes. Realism isn’t a priority, but games are generally fast-paced, frantic, and gravity-defying. It’s no wonder it’s one of the best-selling (before going free-to-play) and most played games across all of its available platforms, and it has a huge eSports scene as well.
The third season since this switch to F2P begins next month, starting April 7. As usual, there will be even more fictional vehicles from the game added to the roster, contained in the Season 3 Rocket Pass, but players will also be able to add official NASCAR and Formula 1 vehicles to their garages. Along with the cars from the Premium DLC packs, these will be the only real-world vehicles in the game, although early images suggest a generic F1 car rather than a specific vehicle from the actual grid.
NASCAR and Formula 1 cars will be available in their own DLC packs, arriving separately in May. Psyonix will also add a new fictional vehicle intended to compete with these cars, called “Tyranno”, which will feature in the S3 Rocket Pass. All content will be available on all platforms: PC via the Epic Games store; PlayStation 4/5; Xbox One and series; and Nintendo Switch.
Additionally, the DFH Stadium will receive an update to add a running track around its perimeter. You’re unlikely to run laps, but this is a thematic visual update to the popular standard arena to coincide with F1 and NASCAR vehicles. The new stadium will be available for private matches and free play, and will appear in casual and competitive playlists when Season 3 begins.
There will be a game update at 1100 UTC on April 6, before Season 3 begins on April 7. F1 and NASCAR content will be available later in the season, during the first half of May.
