JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Looks like Trevor Lawrence is heading for Jacksonville.

Jaguars coach Urban Meyer told NBCSports.com the team intend to take the former Clemson quarterback with the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft next month.

“I have to say that’s the direction we’re going,” Meyer told Peter King. “I will leave that to the owner when we make this official decision. But I am certainly not stepping off the line because that is certainly the direction we are going.”

The Jaguars have been looking for a franchise quarterback since Mark Brunell and the franchise’s beginnings in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. The team gave sophomore Gardner Minshew the chance to prove he was could be the long-term starter last season, but struggled after a strong start in the first two weeks, hid a thumb injury from staff and lost his job to the rookie. Jake Luton and finally veteran Mike Glennon.

The Jaguars drafted two more quarterbacks in the first round: Byron Leftwich (2003) and Blake Bortles (2014).
