There was no one in the world busier this weekend than Ryan Wilson – well, except for the guys trying to take the boat off into the Suez Canal – and that’s because Wilson had to completely revamp his simulation project after the Dolphins decided to do it. make two big trades on Friday.
With the 2021 NFL Draft now in exactly ONE MONTH, we’re going to be drafting in today’s newsletter. Not only will we cover Wilson’s latest simulation, but we’ll also cover the winners and losers of the two trades Miami made. Also, in non-draft news, I think Alvin Kamara hates that the NFL is about to expand the regular season schedule. We’ll cover that and more in today’s recap, so let’s get this thing started.
As always, here’s your weekly reminder to tell all your friends to sign up for the newsletter. All you have to do is click here and then share the link.
1. Show of the day: Mock Draft Monday
From now on, until the draft begins on April 29, every Monday will be the Monday of the mock draft on the podcast. This means that we will be inviting our draft gurus every week to talk about how they think the draft will go. This week, that means Will Brinson has been joined by Ryan Wilson and Josh Edwards.
For Monday’s show, the guys had a serious time talking about some of the big professional days to come on the NFL calendar. For example, Tuesday will be a huge day on the Professional Day Tour and that’s because Ohio State (Justin Fields) and Alabama (Mac Jones) will be hosting their events. Wilson has been carrying the Mac Jones flag longer than anyone on the internet and he won’t be at all surprised if Jones ends up in third overall in the 49ers.
The guys also analyzed some of the early props on the project because now you can bet on the project in most states. If you want to make money watching this year’s draft, you’ll definitely want to watch today’s show. To listen to today’s episode – and to follow the podcast – be sure to click here.
Plus, since it’s Mock Draft Monday, here’s a look at Wilson’s Weekly Simulation.
- 1. Jaguars: QB Trevor Lawrence (Clemson)
- 2. Jets: QB Zach Wilson (BYU)
- 3. 49ers: QB Mac Jones (Alabama)
- 4. Falcons: OL Penei Sewell (Oregon)
- 5. Bengals: Rashawn Slater (northwest)
- 6. Dolphins: WR Jaylen Waddle (Alabama)
- 7. Lions: WR Ja’Marr Chase (LSU)
- 8. Panthers: QB Justin Fields (Ohio State)
- 9. Broncos: LB Micah Parsons (Penn State)
- 10. Cowboys: CB Patrick Surtain II (Alabama)
One thing you’ll notice about this week’s simulation is that Wilson knocked Florida tight end Kyle Pitts out of the top 10. To find out where Pitts will land and who the Patriots will take as the quarterback of the future, make sure click here.
2. Winners and losers of major draft jobs
Things got a little crazy on Friday and that’s mainly because the Dolphins decided to make two monstrous draft trades. First, they sent the No.3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the 49ers in exchange for the No.12 overall pick, a first-round pick in 2022, a third-round pick in 2022, and a first-round pick in 2023. And then five minutes later – like, literally, five minutes later – the Dolphins sent their newly acquired 12th overall pick to the Eagles so they could move up to 6th overall. (To earn all six spots, the Dolphins also had to pitch a first-round pick in 2022 and a fourth-round pick in 2021, 123rd overall.)
When you have a big trade like this, there will be winners and there will be losers, so we decided to make a list of both.
Winners
- Background information: By trading in third place, it likely means the Dolphins feel comfortable with Tua as a starter, at least for 2021.
- Jalen hurts: Coming out of sixth place, it likely means the Eagles feel comfortable with Hurts as a starter, at least for 2021.
- Zach Wilson: The BYU quarterback now appears to be in a lock down to be the second overall pick.
Losers
- Jimmy Garoppolo: They won’t publicly admit it, but it looks like the 49ers are ready to leave Garoppolo.
- Panthers: It’ll be a lot harder for them to get a first-round quarterback now that the 49ers have jumped past them.
- Texans: When making a winners and losers list you almost feel like you have to put the Texans in the losers section and find out why they made the losers list this time around, you will have to click here to see the entire one. from the play by Jordan Dajani.
3. Urban Meyer spoils preliminary NFL drama
As for the first draft pick, the NFL loves it when there’s a mystery about who’s going to be selected, but apparently Urban Meyer didn’t get that memo as the new Jaguars coach essentially admitted over the course of the game. weekend that his team will almost certainly take Trevor Lawrence.
“I have to say that is the direction we are going,” Meyer told Peter King.. “I will leave that to the owner when we make this official decision. But I’m definitely not stepping out of line because that’s definitely the direction we’re going. “
So, what does Meyer like about Lawrence?
“Trevor ticks all the boxes, you know?” Meyer said. “The number one common quality of every great player, not just a quarterback, is the competition freak. He’s 34-2. Won a national title as a true rookie. Is a winner.”
A winner is exactly what the Jaguars need and that’s mainly because they haven’t fielded too many winners in the last decade. In the past 10 seasons, the Jaguars have only finished the year with a winning record once (2017). On the other hand, they finished with six wins or less a total of nine times.
As far as this preliminary drama goes, it looks like we’ll have to wait until the Jets are on time before the real fun begins.
4. Alvin Kamara doesn’t like playing 17 games
The 32 NFL owners will be holding their annual meeting this week and when that happens they will vote on whether or not to extend the regular season to 17 games (spoiler alert: this will happen). Over the weekend, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted about the topic and Kamara saw the tweet, prompting him to respond with his own tweet.
“[Crap] silly … as hell .. “Kamara wrote about extending the schedule to 17 games. Plus he didn’t use the word” shit “, he used a word that rhymes with spitting . (You can see the tweet by clicking here, but remember, there is a word in there that is NSFW.)
Kamara was not the only one to file a complaint against the NFL plan to add a game. Packers safety Adrian Amos and Eagles cornerback Darius Slay too. didn’t seem too happy about the idea of playing 17 games.
Unfortunately for these three guys, the 17 game schedule is going to take place and it will probably be voted on Tuesday. According to NBC Sports, the owners will be holding a two-hour Zoom meeting that day (1:00 p.m. ET) and that’s when they are expected to vote on the expanded schedule.
5. Ranking the best NFL Draft picks of all time
With 31 days to go into the 2021 NFL Draft, we’ve decided to kick off a new series this week that features the best draft picks of all time. The way it’s going to work is pretty straightforward: since there are 32 picks in the first round, we’ve reviewed the top five picks for each of those 32 spots and will be releasing them over the next 32 days. . (The series actually started over the weekend, so don’t worry, we’ll sort it out before the draft begins.)
With that in mind, here’s our list of the top five # 32 overall picks of all time:
1. Drew Brees (2001, Chargers)
2. Bob “The Geek” St. Clair (1953, 49ers)
3. Logan Mankins (2005, Patriots)
4. Lamar Jackson (2018, Ravens)
5. Benjamin Watson (2004, Patriots)

6. Rapid fire roundup
After several big exchanges on Friday, I thought things might get a little crazy over the weekend, but it turns out that didn’t happen at all. Instead, only a few moves were made, so that’s what we’ll cover in today’s roundup.
7. The Kicker: Tom Brady celebrated his favorite vacation this weekend
I don’t know what Tom Brady’s favorite day is on the calendar, but I’m guessing March 28 is in the top five and that’s because Brady seems to mention it every year on social media. (You can see his tweet celebrate the day by clicking here.)
So why is Brady mentioning this Random Day? I know what you are thinking, and no, it has nothing to do with March 28 being National Spa Day. Brady celebrates March 28 because it’s numbered 3-28 and as we all know, that was the score the Patriots were following in the third quarter of Super Bowl LI. Given that the most famous soccer player on the planet celebrates Day 3-28 every year, I’m starting to feel like the Falcons might never live that missed lead.
