Pharrell Williams reveals cousin killed in Virginia Beach shooting: ‘a tragedy beyond measure’

Pharrell Williams mourns his cousin.

The 47-year-old singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to his cousin Donovon W. Lynch, who was shot in Virginia Beach on Friday.

Multiple shootings took place in the region on Friday, leaving two dead and eight injured.

Next to a photo of the 25-year-old, the “Happy” singer offered a touching caption.

“The loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure. My cousin Donovon was killed in the shooting,” he said. “He was a shining light and someone who always stood out for others. It is essential that my family and the families of other victims get the transparency, honesty and justice they deserve.”

The star concluded, “Virginia Beach is the epitome of hope and tenacity and as a community we will come out and come out even stronger.”

Williams provided no further details about his cousin’s death.

Three people have been charged and are in detention after the incidents, according to a declaration released on Saturday by the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), which added that Lynch’s death was linked to a “shooting involving a police officer.”

The three suspects were charged with “seven counts of criminal assault, using a firearm to commit a crime and recklessly handling a firearm.”

The second victim was Deshayla E. Harris, a spectator of the event and a former “Bad Girls Club”.

Another statement from the VBPD on Monday said Lynch was “wielding a handgun at the time of the shooting,” according to homicide detectives’ findings.

“The specific actions that resulted in the shooting are part of the ongoing criminal investigation. Once the VBPD’s investigation is completed, all statements and evidence will be submitted to the Commonwealth Prosecutor’s Office (OCA),” the statement continued. . “The OCA is conducting a separate investigation into this incident from the police department.”

Once the IBC reviews the criminal investigation, the Police Department’s Office of Internal Affairs “will begin its investigation into compliance with policies and procedures.”
