Donald Faison joined ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ live-action pilot at The CW as Professor Drake Utonium.

The series, now simply titled “Powerpuff,” was first announced as being in development in August. Based on the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken, the new series sees pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twenty-five-year-olds who don’t feel like they lost their childhood in the fight against the crime. Will they agree to come together now that the world needs it more than ever?

It was previously announced that Chloe Bennet was chosen for Blossom, Dove Cameron was chosen for Bubbles and Yana Perrault was chosen for Buttercup.

Professor Utonium de Faison is described as eccentric, easygoing and narcissistic. He’s a scientific genius who is immensely proud of the three amazing girls he created in his lab. Faced with a midlife crisis, he is determined to mend his relationships with his now adult daughters.

Faison is best known for his starring role on the sitcom “Scrubs,” which he starred on throughout the show’s nine seasons. He and his co-star Zach Braff currently host the “Fake Doctors Real Friends” podcast. Faison is also known for his work on shows like “Emergence” and “Generation Q” as well as for films like “Clueless” and “Remember the Titans”.

He is replaced by UTA and Fuller Law.

The “Powerpuff Girls” pilot is from screenwriters and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, with executive producer Cody via Vita Vera Films. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden will be executive producers via Berlanti Productions. Erika Kennair will produce. Maggie Kiley will direct and produce the pilot. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
