“He called me about this yesterday,” McConnell told reporters in Kentucky of his interview with Biden.

The phone conversation comes after McConnell reported last week that the two had largely not spoken since Biden’s inauguration on January 20.

Biden travels to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to unveil his roughly $ 2 trillion plan that includes transportation infrastructure, modern infrastructure such as broadband and building upgrades, and funding for innovation and research and the development of future technologies.

McConnell said the plan includes “not only a lot more borrowing, but higher taxes on the more productive parts of our economy,” adding that Congress was not in a “very bipartisan period.”
