CBS is officially embarking on a new series of crimes, passing an official serial order to a new iteration of CSI i.e. restart and relive in equal parts.
As previously noted, the series of sequels – titled CSI: Vegas – will resume six years after the 2015 OG Series Finals and find franchise veterans Gil and Sara from William Petersen’s Jorja Fox surrounded by a new generation of Sin City-based CSIs played by Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights, Kingdom), Paula Newsome (Chicago Med, Barry), Mel Rodriguez (Last man on earth) and Mandeep Dhillon (After life).
Additionally, TVLine can now confirm that Wallace Langham – who played lab tech David Hodges for much CSIoriginal series – will also return as a regular series.
The official logline for CSI: Vegas, which will debut this fall on CBS, is: “Faced with an existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a brilliant new team of forensic investigators must once again welcome old friends and deploy new techniques. to preserve and bring justice to Sin City. “
New CSI – which is considered a potential In progress series vs a limited series – was originally slated to premiere last fall, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the original CSIlaunch in 2000. The coronavirus pandemic, however, delayed these plans.
Elementary vet Jason Tracey will serve as showrunner / EP.
Fueled by the phenomenal success of the mothership (at its peak, it averaged north of 25 million viewers), CBS went on to launch Spinoffs. CSI: Miami (with David Caruso), CSI: NY (with Gary Sinise) and CSI: Cyber (with Patricia Arquette).
“21 years ago, we launched CSI and watched with admiration this new film series launched an entire genre and became a revolutionary juggernaut that still has global resonance today, ”CBS President Kelly Kahl said in a statement. “We are delighted to welcome the next generation of forensic criminals to the CSI and pair them with legendary characters from the past that we still love, including the extraordinary Billy Petersen and Jorja Fox.
