Sony is scheduling an event; 5G flagship Xperia 1 III could debut on April 14

Sony historically announced its latest Xperia smartphones at MWC Barcelona at the end of February. But the ongoing pandemic has put an end to this practice and this year Sony will go it alone with a dedicated event.

Sony could announce its next 5G flagship Xperia on April 14

The Japanese brand has announced plans to host a digital press conference on April 14, which will be broadcast on the company’s official website. Sony Xperia YouTube channel at 12:30 p.m. PDT / 3:30 a.m. EDT / 8:30 a.m. BST / 9:30 a.m. CEST. Sony has not confirmed which devices will be introduced, but it will likely announce the top of the line. Xperia 1 III 5G, fast becoming one of the best Android phones of 2021. The next-gen flagship will succeed the Xperia 1 II and sports a periscope camera and a 6.5-inch screen at 120 Hz, per makes leaks.

Other specs for the Xperia 1 III are expected to include the Snapdragon 888 chip and at least 256GB of internal storage. The phone also has a headphone jack, a dedicated trigger, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

There is no official word on the price and release date of the Xperia 1 III. But Sony is often quite slow with launches, so a late May or June release could be on the cards. Price-wise, last year’s model was selling for $ 1,199 in the US, and a similar price is expected for the 2021 edition.

In addition to the flagship Xperia 1 III 5G, Sony could choose to unveil the mid-range Xperia 10 III. Renderings of the phone leaked in january and it looks virtually identical to the previous generation model, but not much else is known about it at the moment.
