Hordes of illegal immigrants are taking advantage of holes in the border wall as construction is halted under President Biden, a border official has revealed.
“This is insane,” a border official said speaking to Fox News as he dealt with a group of 13 Brazilian migrants near a 100-foot gap in the fence at Otay Mesa, in California.
“The project is three quarters finished. At least they should be allowed to tie the main fence together. Otherwise, we’re trying to catch these people in the worst possible place. It just depletes our staff, ”the officer continued.
The smugglers send groups of asylum seekers through the loopholes to overwhelm officers, the agent told the network. When the agents leave to intercept or apprehend one group, another rushes in.
More than eleven days have passed since President Biden’s 60-day order suspending construction of the border wall expired, as hordes of migrants take advantage of gaps in fences to reach the United States.
On March 21, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin were to present the Commander-in-Chief with a plan on how to proceed with the construction of the border wall of former President Donald Trump, according to the own Biden’s presidential proclamation.
The edict, signed on the day of the inauguration, instituted a two-month suspension on military construction on the previous president’s wall while Mayorkas and Austin considered the project.
The White House did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment on whether the two had made a final recommendation to the president or whether the administration was planning to restart military-funded construction of the wall.
Military spending is different from spending approved by Congress, some of which is still for building border walls.
As the country waits for a White House decision, thousands of tons of steel and heavy equipment lie idle and groups of migrants pass through these sites.
The Biden administration’s cancellation of Trump’s border policy has sparked an influx of illegal migrants from Central America and Mexico to the US border, including thousands of unaccompanied children.
Central Americans seeking refuge in the Northern Triangle countries – El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala – have taken these political steps, along with the extremely welcoming tone of Democrats, as a sign that this president is calling them across the border.
Insisting that the border was not facing a crisis, Mayorkas said in early March that the problems facing the agency should be blamed on the previous administration.
However, the data overwhelmingly shows that migrants were flooding the border because they believed Biden would welcome them with open arms.
At the end of last month, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed the new president for the crisis, arguing “expectations” he had set left migrants feeling like they would be left behind in the United States.
“Expectations were created that with President Biden’s government there would be better treatment of migrants. And that made migrants from Central America, and also from our country, want to cross the border thinking it was easier to do so, ”he said.
