It’s so easy to follow your progress from the Outriders demo to the full game

Following a delay and a one-month demonstration period, looter-shooter Outriders is available today for virtually all platforms except the Switch. If you’ve played the demo, you can carry over your progress to the main game if you’re on the same platform, which developer People Can Fly made clear from the jump. But it’s amazing how transparent the transfer process is. It happens.

Really. It is so easy.

Once you’ve downloaded the full game and logged in, you’ll see all of the characters (up to six) you’ve created during the demo. You will keep all of your equipment and in-game currency. You will be exactly where you were, story-wise. On PlayStation 5, I was even able to use the chic activity card feature to jump right into the beat of the “Talk to Jakub to go to the first town” story, where the demo ends.

There is however a limitation on PC. You would not upgrade from a demo on Steam to a full game on the Epic Games Store. And it’s worth making sure that progress is clearly tied to your platform, rather than your account – you can’t continue to progress from a PS5 demo if you pick up the game through the Game. The fact that People Can Fly allowed simple data transfer is refreshing. Such ease is not always the case. You’d expect beta progress to be cleared for the full game (see: Avengers), but that doesn’t necessarily mean the same principle applies to a solid demo. A smooth continuation like this is a great selling point and should make more players want to pay to pick up the game where the demo left off.

Regarding the demos, the Outriders we offer a pretty decent part of the game, including the cinematic-heavy prologue and the whole first chapter, with all the side quests and a laborious social center. The prologue is admittedly mundane, but once you get your powers at the start of the first chapter, the gameplay opens and Outriders becomes one of those must-see games – except for the fact that, you know, you gotta do it, because it’s a demo. (After completing the prologue for the first time, you will be able to create a new character at the start of the first chapter.)

Outriders is currently available on Game Pass for Xbox consoles. It is not included in the PC Game Pass library. We’ll have more thoughts on the full game in the coming days.
