A press conference is underway regarding the mass shooting in the Los Angeles area that left four people dead, including a child, on Wednesday night.
Authorities are expected to provide answers about the bloodbath at a two-story office complex in Orange – where an accused gunman opened fire around 5:30 p.m. local time.
So far, little information is known, including the identity of the shooter and the victims, as well as a possible motive.
The suspect was injured after being confronted by police and taken to an area hospital. It was not clear if his injury was self-inflicted or if he had been shot by cops.
A bystander video showed the bloodied gunman being dragged out of the building by police.
A fifth victim, a woman, was also hospitalized in critical condition, police said Wednesday evening.
Lt. Jennifer Amat of the Orange Police Department told reporters that when officers arrived at the scene on West Lincoln Avenue, the suspect was still firing shots. The massacre began in one of the building’s suites before moving into the courtyard, she said.
The complex is home to a dozen businesses, including a farmers’ insurance office, a financial advisory firm, a phone repair shop, and a mental health counseling office.
A firearm was found at the scene.
Wednesday’s shooting was the worst the city of Orange has seen since 1997, when a man seeking revenge on his employer shot dead four people.
The California rampage is the third mass shooting in the United States in three weeks. Eight people, including six Asian women, were killed in spa shootings in Atlanta, Georgia and 10 were murdered in a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado.
