Volkswagen, in a gesture of apology due to all the frenzy created by its fake name change, decided to correct it by using the name Voltswattsen around the world.
First of all, rumors circulated regarding the name change from Volkswagen to Voltswagen. Then VW officially confirmed the name change. The automaker later said it was not changing its name. This all happened before April Fool’s Day, so this is the automaker’s truth.
The lie was not well received, however, especially since Volkswagen has been linked with dangerous lies in the past (think Dieselgate). Here is just a glimpse of the tweets criticizing VW for its deception:

The call was made for Volkswagen to either stick to its commitment to electric cars by implementing the name change or to forever remember another lie in which its dirty past trumps. his own future promised.
VW responded and decided to raise the bar. Voltswagen hasn’t gone far enough to prove VW’s commitment to EVs, so the automaker has made its new name so obvious that there’s no way VW and EVs won’t. no pair. The name? Voltswattsen. It has a certain German ring and clearly portrays the brand as dedicated to electric cars.
It doesn’t end there though. Voltswattsen decided that its ID range of electric cars deserved a name symbolic of their electricity, so ID will become AMP and VW will rename the range. For example, ID.3 will become AMP.3 and ID.4 will become AMP.4.
VW says it will modernize all of its identification vehicles that are already in the buyer’s hands free of charge as well. It can’t do this via an over-the-air update (Tesla probably could), but instead you’ll need to bring your AMP.3 or AMP.4 to your local dealership for the new badge to be applied.
Last but not least, Voltswattsen teased its flagship electric car in an extra effort to show its commitment to a future EV. Called AMP.9, this vehicle looks like the rare VW XL1, but abandons the dirty diesel range extender in favor of a pure electric setup. It is believed to be the most aerodynamic and efficient car ever built.
To right this wrong, VW is offering the AMP.9 free to all former VW diesel owners. That’s right, hundreds of thousands of these vehicles will be given away for free in a move VW calls DieselFreebies. Finally, it seems VW has gone pretty far in upholding its commitment to electric vehicles and doing good for its diesel wrongs.
