If you rely on Amazon’s dedicated shopping app to browse digital aisles, you may have noticed a change recently. The Android application dedicated to the Amazon storefront is experiencing significant changes, including a new general navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. The updated interface doesn’t seem to be tied to a specific version of the app (we’ve tried one on multiple phones), so it could be a server-side switch.

In addition to getting rid of the side navigation bar (most of its options can be found in the three-line hamburger menu now at the bottom right), the updated UI now has a dedicated tab for Whole Foods. Amazon bought the trendy grocery store in 2017 and quickly set about integrating it into the corporate structure of the larger company. A dedicated tab will come in handy for those who rely on Whole Foods retailers for regular grocery pickups.

The old version of the interface.

Whether the new interface is actually better than the old one will likely depend on your personal taste. They are both perfectly functional. Since the change appears to be server-side and not mentioned in the Play Store release notes, it may or may not become the app’s default in the future.
