North Carolina police have arrested a man they said shot dead a mother of six in an alleged road attack late last week, officials said Thursday.
Dejywan R. Floyd, a 29-year-old man from Lumberton, North Carolina, was arrested shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said. He has been charged with first degree murder and discharging a gun at an occupied property in connection with the senseless shooting of Pennsylvania mother Julie Eberly.
Eberly, 47, was on her way to Hilton Head, SC, with her husband, Ryan, to meet friends and celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary, relatives have previously told Fox News.
The couple were traveling near Exit 22 of Interstate 95 around 11:40 a.m. on March 25 when what had started as an exciting day took a turn for the worse. Investigators have determined that Floyd became angry after “the victim’s vehicle approached the suspect vehicle during a lane merger,” according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Floyd then dragged his vehicle along the passenger side of the Eberlys, rolled down his window and “fired several shots at the passenger door,” police said.
He hit Julie Eberly once and, according to witnesses, “spun and got out through exit 22,” officials said.
Ryan Eberly, who was driving, was uninjured and pulled his car to the side of the road until first responders arrived. Doctors rushed Julie Eberly to an area hospital, but she could not be saved.

Ryan Eberly later told Lancaster Online that he had not given Floyd “the finger or the sound of the horn to him or anything to make the situation worse.”
“I looked. The passenger’s window in my car was smashed,” he told the news site. “My immediate attention turned to my wife and obviously I determined that she had been hit and put herself on the shoulder as soon as I could.

Julie’s death prompted a family and community to track down their murderer. On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office announced that local residents had offered a reward of $ 20,000 for information leading police to the shooter.
In a statement provided to Fox News, Eberly’s family said Julie and Ryan “look forward to the next steps in their life together, including the thrill of being grandparents for the first time.”
“Julie really had a mother’s heart and was delighted to be an integral part of the lives of each of the children,” the statement continued.

On Thursday, Floyd was placed in the Robeson County Detention Center without bail pending a court appearance scheduled for later today.
“Floyd’s arrest is a direct result of the cooperation of law enforcement and the community.
