Hammer was originally scheduled to star alongside Julia Roberts and Sean Penn in the Watergate drama Gaslit, but sources told Deadline executives ditched the actor in favor of Dan Stevens.
Stevens will play former White House lawyer John Dean in the Starz series based on the Slow Burn podcast.
