Analyst: iPhone SE adds 5G in 2022, perforation design coming in 2023

More details emerge on what to expect from Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE refresh. Display Analyst Ross Young posted on Twitter Today’s iPhone SE 2022 update will likely keep the same 4.7-inch form factor and add support for 5G. In 2023, however, things could get more interesting.

For those who are not familiar, Ross Young is an analyst for Display Supply Chain Consultants. As such, his reports are generally based on supply chain insights similar to those from analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo.

Young says the 2023 iPhone SE could feature a perforated design rather than a notch. This means that the iPhone SE line would likely have the notch design, as the current iteration features large bezels at the top and bottom, plus a home button. The design is virtually identical to that of the iPhone 8.

Apple LCD Leaked from the iPhone, we now hear that the next iPhone SE LCD will remain at 4.7 ″ in 2022. Some rumors that it could have 5G with Sub-6 GHz as well. We’re also hearing about a 6.1-inch version in 2023 with a punch hole rather than a notch.

Young’s new report follows a Kuo last month. Kuo wrote that the 2022 iPhone SE will add 5G connectivity and keep the same 4.7-inch design. He didn’t mention, however, that the iPhone SE might adopt the hole-punch design in 2023.

Kuo said the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, launched in 2022, would risk ditching the notch of a new “punch-hole display design” for iPhone. With that in mind, it makes sense that the hole-punch design could move down the iPhone lineup the following year.

Either way, it looks like we shouldn’t expect a new iPhone SE in 2021, with Apple letting the 2020 model live for another year. The fate of the “iPhone SE Plus” rumor is also still uncertain. Are you looking forward to a new iPhone SE? Let us know in the comments!
