One of the most bizarre injuries in combat sports history appears to have taken place at CFFC 94 on Friday.

Middleweight Khetag Pliev appeared to lose a finger in the middle of his main co-event fight with Devin Goodale. The injury was noticed between round two and three, with commentators John Morgan and CM Punk almost at a loss for words to describe what they were seeing.

After some speculation, commentators concluded that Pliev’s ring finger had somehow come loose from his hand.

It is not known how the injury may have happened and when Pliev’s finger separated from the rest of his body. The fighters engaged in an extended fight streak against the fence in the second round and Pliev appeared to be complaining that opponent Devin Goodale was holding his glove, which drew a warning from the referee. But otherwise, neither party in the cage noticed if Pliev’s finger was missing.

Goodale, who officially won by TKO at 5:00 p.m. of the second round, was just as confused as everyone when he was interviewed after the fight.

“I don’t remember anything, I don’t know,” Goodale said. “I was struck by something apparently – I don’t remember what happened.

A public announcement was then made at the scene, alerting those present that the search was underway for Pliev’s finger.

After further deliberation, Punk was still unable to make sense of the situation, only confirming that, as far as we know, Pliev’s finger is missing.

“I don’t understand exactly what happened,” Punk said on the show. “We’re not going to replay it for you ladies and gentlemen, but it wasn’t a compound split. It wasn’t a dislocation, a rupture, a laceration. His finger was just gone. Let’s go. He fell, torn off.

A request for comment sent to the Pennsylvania commission’s executive director, Greg Sirb, was not immediately returned.

At the end of Friday’s show, CFFC President Rob Haydek addressed the incident.

“It was really weird,” Haydek said. “When the fight was over, I heard. I was next to the cage, obviously. I walked in and they said, ‘His finger is gone.’ I was like, ‘I understand it’s April Fool’s Day …’ And then I look down and it was literally just bone. “

“He got dislodged,” Haydek continued. “He logged out. My first question was, “Where’s the finger?” We thought it was on the outside of the cage, we had no idea, and they say it’s actually inside the glove. So how does it go if he pulls the finger? So I can’t wait to see the video, play it multiple times from different camera angles and really see what happened there because it’s absolutely weird.

CFFC 94 broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass.
