Fantastic

First part of the diorama adventure RPG developed by Mistwalker Fantastic is now available for Apple Arcade (Mac, iOS and tvOS) with support for English and Japanese.

As previously announced, Fantastic will be published in two parts. The first part lasts about 20 to 30 hours. The second part, scheduled for the second half of 2021, will also last around 20 to 30 hours.

Here’s a look at the game, via Mistwalker:

Story

The story begins in a kingdom ruled by machines. Within this multidimensional universe, the balance of “Chaos and Order” becomes a key factor in the struggle for these realms and the machinations of the gods who wish to control them. Players will take on the role of the protagonist, Leo, who awakens from a massive explosion only to find himself lost in a strange land with only one memory left. As players embark on a journey to retrieve Leo’s memories, they will uncover the mysteries of the bizarre mechanical infection slowly engulfing all that is known to mankind. The gripping story is written by Sakaguchi and is complemented by an original soundtrack by Final fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu.

Main characteristics

  • New combat mechanics – Exploit his experience of Final fantasy franchise, Sakaguchi brings to Fantastic several quality of life improvements to the classic Japanese RPG genre, such as the ‘Dimengeon Battle’ mechanic, which allows players to send previously encountered enemies into a separate dimensional dungeon to streamline combat and maximize uninterrupted exploration of beautiful locations .
  • Handcrafted environments – Each of the more than 150 dioramas has been designed by masters of the Japanese “Tokusatsu” or special effects industry. Creation FantasticReal-life miniature sets are veterans who have worked on projects like the Godzilla movies, The attack of the Titans, and Ultraman. Fantastic serves as a vehicle to bring these amazing works of art into the digital space via Apple Arcade.
  • Legendary soundtrack – The famous composer Nobuo Uematsu, known for his work on the Final fantasy series and games such as Lost odyssey and Blue dragon, created a soundtrack to complement the memorable and magical world of Fantastic from eye-catching combat tunes to thrilling dungeon rooms and moving character themes.
  • Story of novels – To tell an epic story, a ‘novel’ approach has been used in the form of a ‘memory’ system where players encounter and collect various mementos, journal entries and notes presented as miniature in-game novels to flesh out the history, kingdoms, and characters of Fantastic. These bite-size novels have unique artwork, music, and sound effects to provide gamers with a truly immersive experience.
