WWE wrestler Bayley will be out for about nine months due to injury, the company said on Friday.
The promotion said Bayley (real name Pamela Martinez, 32) was injured during training. She was scheduled to face SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair in an “I Quit” match in the next Money in the bank pay per view. Belair’s new opponent will be announced on Friday evening on Smack down, said WWE.
Bayley and Belair were engaged in a months-long feud which began just after Belair won the title at WrestlingMania in April. Belair won his match at Backlash and beat Bayley again last month at Hell in a cell.
Bayley was one of WWE’s most important performers in the Society’s Empty Arenas series. Her new heel character helped add intrigue to the women’s division as Gross and Smack down languished without the presence of living crowds.
“I am very proud of the past year,” said Bayley Illustrated sports in May, referencing his new character. “I believed I could do it, and I knew I had so much more to give. I took this Bayley across the world and did all I could, giving my heart to the fans, but it was time for a change. I have a lot of freedom, and I’m really thankful that WWE, the writers, and Vince [McMahon] gave me the platform to be me.
