Police investigate fatal crash involving motorcyclist and car in North Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Police are investigating a fatal Sunday afternoon crash in north Springfield involving a motorcyclist and a car.

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Kearney Street near National Avenue. Investigators say the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, died in the collision.

Police said a car was traveling southbound on National Avenue after getting a green light. Meanwhile, police said the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Kearney Street and attempted to brake. The motorcyclist was unable to stop, resulting in the collision.

Investigators say the victim was wearing a helmet when she crashed. EMS performed CPR on the motorcycle rider, but he was pronounced dead.

Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash. The driver of the car was not injured.

The intersection of Kearney Street and National Avenue remains closed at this time. Drivers are advised to take alternative routes.
