WhatsApp disappearance messages arrive on iOS

After releasing the feature to Android last month, Facebook is rolling out WhatsApp’s auto-erasing media and texts on iOS via a new beta, according to the WhatsApp news site. WABetaInfo. If you sign up for beta 2.21.140.9 on Testflight, you will be able to upload self-destructing photos and videos as soon as they are viewed and rejected. Users with access to the ‘show once’ feature will see a dedicated button resembling a timer in the caption input field, as shown in the WABetaInfo screenshot below.

Unlike WhatsApp disappearance messages, which are deleted after seven days, photos and videos sent using View Once mode will disappear immediately after closing. The sender will be notified when their media has been viewed.

As WABetaInfo notes, nothing prevents users from taking media screenshots, and you won’t be notified if a recipient has. As the recipient, you also cannot prevent the sender from being notified after opening the message.

WhatsApp has promoted the feature as a way to encourage more authentic and intimate conversations. Parent Facebook previously said some features would be blocked for users who wouldn’t agree to its divisive new privacy policy, but it later reversed that decision.
