COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State football schedule may be in the midst of its second wave of engagements in its 2022 recruiting class.
The Buckeyes entered June with the nation’s No.1 class, holding 12 commitments with five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers and five-star local linebacker CJ Hicks headlining. With the lifting of the 15-month hiring moratorium, the month of June allowed OSU to reach all important targets on campus while uncovering new ones. The result was five new additions in 39 days.
Four-star wide receiver Kaleb Brown kicked off during his official visit on June 7. It could have been a win for Michigan. Instead, he’s become another example of why OSU receivers coach Brian Hartline is in the running for his second honor as 247Sports National Scout of the Year.
Four-star Dallan Hayden arrived on board on June 22, checking OSU’s 2022 recruiting task list after an official visit over the weekend. Assistant coach Tony Alford’s reputation as a running back developer is responsible for this.
Four-star Terrance Brooks pulled the trigger eight days later, giving the class their second top-60 cornerback, another example of how quickly Kerry Coombs has moved through this cycle.
Next, Hartline completed the 2022 wide receiver corps by adding four-star wide receiver Kojo Antwi on July 5. He’s a player who once went from being a big OSU favorite to the Buckeyes, potentially becoming an afterthought.
The Buckeyes wrapped up the first full week of July by bringing in Geoge Fitzpatrick on Friday. The four-star became the second offensive tackle in the class alongside Ohio native Tegra Tshabola.
This represents 17 commitments worth 286.75 points and an average score of 94.35 with 155 days before the day of signing.
OSU is far from done with its 2022 class. At a minimum, one more offensive lineman will be added, while the defensive line is still looking for the first of four or five potential players. Dasan McCullough’s loss to Indiana meant Al Washington had to find another linebacker, and the high hall still needed security.
Outside of the linebacker, the answers to all of these questions are well known in terms of potential additions. What is not is when everyone will make a decision.
