Thor Ragnarok - Chris Hemsworth

Marvel’s fifth episode last week Loki the series on Disney + featured a ton of Easter eggs, comedic references, and callbacks to both Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, we just learned that one of the best Easter Eggs in the episode actually contained another Easter Egg that will make MCU fans very happy, and that implies Thor franchise star Chris Hemsworth.

In the episode “Journey into the mystery” of Loki, after our titular antihero is pruned by the Time Variance Authority, he finds himself in a desolate world called The Void. In this world, there are several other variations of Loki to accommodate him, including Richard E. Grant like classic Loki, Jack Calf as Kid Loki, DeObia Oparei like Boastful Loki, and a bunch of pixels like Alligator Loki. The three gods of mischief take Tom hiddleston as Loki Prime back in their lair. But before entering, there was a little Easter egg lying around outside the den.

Among a pile of debris in The Void, including school lunch trays and Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir, was a jar labeled T-365 with Frog Thor, an amphibious version of the God of Thunder also known as the Throg. . The little guy could be seen trying to break free from his container, screaming and jumping into the glass to try and break it. The voice of this amphibious little Thor was none other than Chris Hemsworth himself.

Loki Episode 5

Chris Hemsworth’s secret cameo in Loki

Loki director Kate herron recently appear on For all nerds (via Entertainment Weekly), and the filmmaker revealed that Chris Hemsworth was recorded as the voice of Frog Thor. Herron said:

“By the way, we recorded Chris Hemsworth for that. We saved it for that. Her voice goes ‘Ahhh!’ It’s a brand new recording. Not recycled. He recorded that.

It would have been easy to just recover an audio file from one of the previous ones Thor or Avengers films and manipulate it so that it sounds like a little Thor frog. But Herron probably hadn’t recorded Hemsworth just that scream. More than likely, Hemsworth was tricked into recording lines around the time the plan was for Frog Thor to have a bigger appearance in the show’s first episode.

As we recently learned, Frog Thor was originally intended to debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the Time Theater sequence of the show’s premiere. One of the clips played for Loki during his interrogation by Mobius reportedly saw Frog Thor beating the God of Mischief as one of his most humiliating moments. This is probably the reason why Chris Hemsworth was asked to record the character’s dialogues, as having the actor come in to scream once doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.

We hope we can see this deleted scene someday down the road. At the very least, there might be footage of Chris Hemsworth recording this dialogue in the Loki edition of the making-of documentary series Assembled, which will likely arrive next week after the show’s finale airs on Wednesday.
