Former professional football player, college football star and army veteran Jake Bequette became the last Republican to launch a main challenge in 2022 against two-term GOP Senator John Boozman of Arkansas on Monday.

Bequette, who was born and raised in Little Rock, was an All SEC defensive end and an Academic All American as a featured football player for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.

He went on to play in the National Football League and was a member of the New England Patriots, Super Bowl XLIX champions. He then left the NFL and volunteered in the military, serving in the 101st Airborne Division during the Iraq War.
Bequette becomes the third Republican in the very Red state of Arkansas to challenge Boozman in the primary, after former gubernatorial candidate Jan Morgan and Pastor Heath Loftis.
