A good agent doesn’t just negotiate a player’s contract. A good agent also helps a player negotiate his life.

If Lamar Jackson had a good agent right now, Lamar would get a phone call with a very clear and straightforward message: stop playing defensive back or wide receiver on an asphalt basketball court.

A video emerged of Jackson doing both. And while he wasn’t hurt doing it either, there’s simply no reason to take the risk as he’s about to sign a life-changing contract with the Ravens. A broken ankle, ACL tear, rupture, Achilles tendon, or other similar injury would immediately end these talks.

It’s not difficult and it shouldn’t be controversial. No player approaching around $ 40 million a year should take those risks just for kicking. Aside from whether the Ravens would declare any incident a non-football-related injury and not pay his salary for 2021, the biggest issue here is that his contract is still not finalized. Getting injured while playing DB or WR on a basketball, and it won’t happen.

The Ravens seem to want to deal with Jackson, who is negotiating his own contract. In the meantime, Jackson must take care of himself. And he needs someone to tell him in no uncertain terms to minimize all physical risks until training camp and hope that a deal can be reached before then.
