Elite Dangerous creator Frontier Developments has confirmed that Odyssey’s update for consoles has been delayed indefinitely so the studio can focus on fixing the myriad issues plaguing the expansion on PC.

In a blog post on the game’s forum pages, founder and CEO David Braben said working on issues affecting the PC release of Elite Dangerous Odyssey has resulted in a change in the console development schedule. As such, the Odyssey update for consoles has been postponed indefinitely so that Frontier Developments can ensure it is in pristine condition before its release. The studio has not given a new release date for the Odyssey update on consoles.

“We spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and made the decision to prioritize the base PC experience for Elite Dangerous,” Braben wrote. “Ultimately, we think it’s fair to focus our efforts on the base Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms we’ve published on, before opening up to more.

Braben said it makes the most sense to prioritize the PC, because whatever issues are found – and then resolved – they will inevitably benefit other platforms. But the PC problems need to be fixed first.

“We don’t want to rush to confirm any dates or changes this has on our console version, as we need to stay fully focused on the core Elite experience,” Braben continued. “It’s only when we feel the foundations for the PC version are solid that we can redefine our roadmap for the console.”

Players can expect “monthly development updates” on the content of the work in progress and any issues the team may encounter while repairing the game. This is in an effort to be more transparent to the game. the future.

The Odyssey update was a major expansion for Elite Dangerous, adding multiple worlds to explore and the ability to walk through. However, it came with a plethora of bugs, including gameplay issues and inconsistent performance. Braben had previously apologized for these issues before Frontier Developments rolled out a June patch to fix some of the game’s issues.

Elite Dangerous is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. At the moment, the Odyssey update is only on PC.
