Flash flood emergency for parts of Bucks County, Pennsylvania and Burlington Co., New Jersey

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Severe storms are wreaking havoc in the Philadelphia area Monday night.

A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY was issued by the National Weather Service for Lower Bucks County, Pennsylvania and Northwest Burlington County, New Jersey until 9 p.m.

Radar estimates now show more than 5 “of rain in places near Bristol and Bordentown.
“Widespread and potentially fatal flash floods are occurring. This is an extremely dangerous situation,” the meteorological service said. “Do not venture outside unless it is an emergency or to move to higher ground.”

In Bensalem, Pa., Maritime units from across Bucks County have mobilized to save residents from flood waters.

Mobile 6 captured another driver in Bristol, Pa., Whose car was submerged by rising waters.

Many other roads in the area are also closed due to severe flooding, including Rt. 63.

According to AccuWeather meteorologist Cecily Tynan, there have been at least 24 reports of water rescues in the Bristol Borough area this evening.

No injuries were reported.

In northeast Philadelphia, a resident told Action News that the storm had completely flooded his basement and destroyed other parts of his home.

A flash flood watch is in effect for most of our region until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

There is also a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. for destructive winds and the possibility of an isolated tornado.
