LINCOLN, Neb. – Employees and a general manager of a Burger King in Nebraska quit amid deteriorating working conditions and used the restaurant’s sign to educate customers.

“We’ve all quit,” read the sign at the Lincoln Burger King. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Rachael Flores, who had served as chief executive since January, had given two weeks’ notice and eight other employees also did so shortly before deciding to post the message on the sign, KLKN reported.

“They’ve gone through so many District Directors since I became General Manager,” Flores said. “No one came to the store to help me. They are so inside and out.

Flores said the restaurant is understaffed and she will end up working 50 to 60 hours a week. She said that at one point they did not have working air conditioning in the kitchen, where temperatures were reaching 90 degrees. Flores had to go to the hospital after becoming dehydrated.

Employees had joked Friday about the implementation of the message. On Saturday, they put it on one side of the sign.

“They wanted to put up a sign to say, you know, sorry, there really won’t be anybody here,” Flores said. “Just kind of a laugh for the top management. This was set up (Saturday) before the opening, and I didn’t think anyone was going to notice it because we only made one sign and then it got pretty crazy on Facebook. I got a call from my senior management and they told me I had to withdraw it.

Flores’ boss fired her later that day.

The location is still open.

Burger King has not commented.
