Dustin Poirier responds to Nate Diaz’s challenge: “I would touch you at any weight”

It’s been almost three years since Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were supposed to meet at UFC 230, but it seems the bad blood between them has never gone away.

At the time, Poirier was leading an impressive winning streak that included stopping wins over Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez, which then led to the high-profile showdown against Diaz with the card slated for New York’s Madison Square Garden. .

Unfortunately, Poirier was forced out of the fight due to injury and the match was never rescheduled.

Now, just days after the La. Native Lafayette claimed a second straight stoppage victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 264, Diaz is again eager to make sure the fight with Poirier takes place.

“185 pounds. Pull up, ”Diaz wrote on Twitter, posting a photo of a previous clash with Poirier in 2018.

Diaz, who just lost a unanimous decision to Leon Edwards in his last outing, has occasionally stoked the flames to revisit the fight against Poirier and now he’s starting over.

Obviously, Diaz also has a history with McGregor after splitting two fights in 2016 and he has always seemed interested in the biggest clashes possible for his career.

Poirier certainly fits that bill and the former interim UFC lightweight champion was more than happy to respond to the challenge.

“I would touch you at any weight,” Poirier wrote in response to Diaz.

While all signs point to Poirier moving on to a lightweight title fight against defending UFC Champion Charles Oliveira next, there is no doubt that the interest is still there in sorting out unfinished business with Diaz.

Add to that, Diaz and Poirier have both participated in a number of high profile pay-per-view events, which would only serve to further promote a fight between them in the UFC. It could mean a big payday for both fighters if the UFC actually decides to book the game.

Whether or not this will actually happen or not remains to be seen, but it looks like Diaz is interested in the possibility and Poirier has never been one to back down from a challenge.
