ATLANTA – Trying to fill another injury hole with a trade, the Atlanta Braves acquired veteran receiver Stephen Vogt from the Arizona Diamondbacks late Friday night for minor league first baseman Mason Berne.

Vogt, 36, a two-star with Oakland, averaged .212 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 52 games for the worst Diamondbacks in the major leagues this season. He kicked out 10 of the 30 runners who attempted to fly.

The move came a night after the Braves secured Joc Pederson in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, strengthening their outfield after recently losing star slugger Ronald Acuna Jr. to a knee injury ending the the season.

Atlanta, hoping to oust the New York Mets and win their fourth straight Eastern National League title, struggled to replace injured wide receiver Travis d’Arnaud this year with Kevan Smith, William Contreras and Jonathan Lucroy.

After a big 2020 season, d’Arnaud has only played 23 games this year and is on the 60-day injured list with torn ligaments in his left thumb. He has improved but is not expected to return until next month.

The Braves, third (44-46), are four games behind the NL East leaders Mets, with Philadelphia (45-45) in between.

Bern, 25, was 3-for-12 (.250) with a five-game homerun in the minor basses with the FCL Braves this season.
