After languishing at the bottom of the standings for the past three seasons, the Cleveland Cavaliers have another chance to turn things around in the next NBA Draft.

The team already holds the third pick in the draft. But it looks like he’s looking to add more choice to what’s considered by many to be one of the deepest draft classes of recent years.

“Would a Collin Sexton trade make a difference here for the Cleveland Cavaliers?” wrote Zach Harper of The Athletic. “We have business rumors ahead of Sexton’s contract extension negotiations. Until Kevin Love’s deal isn’t on the books (or someone else’s books), committing a lot of money to Sexton, especially after how he played the year last, might not be the way they want to prepare their payroll. If they can get any additional picks in the process, league sources say that’s something the Cavs are interested in doing. Maybe it means Sexton at [New York] Knicks for their picks at # 19 and # 21 with some kind of frame going on there? “

Sexton has been the Cavs’ top scorer for the past two seasons. Also, it could be their most valuable trade piece, outside of their draft picks. In order for Cleveland to acquire more draft assets, the organization would likely have to part ways with its young star.

Front office alignment decisions over the next few months are going to be crucial as the franchise continues to rebuild.
