Washington, DC, Shots Kill 6-Year-Old Girl; 5 adults also slaughtered: reports

A 6-year-old girl was killed Friday night and at least five adults were injured when gunfire erupted in Washington, DC, police said.

The child was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, Washington-based WUSA-TV reported.

Shortly after 11 p.m., patrol officers heard gunshots in a business district around Malcolm X and Martin Luther King avenues, police said. Locals directed officers to the victims, according to reports.

The site is about 5 miles from the United States Capitol, WUSA’s Mike Valerio wrote on Twitter.

The adults all suffered injuries that were not life threatening, said Deputy Executive Chief Ashan Benedict of the DC Metropolitan Police Department in a video posted to Twitter.

There was no immediate information about the suspects, the arrests or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
