Tour de France 2021 – Mark Cavendish apologizes for the explosion of anger against the mechanic before stage 19

Mark Cavendish clarified the reasons for his outburst of anger ahead of the 19th stage of the Tour de France in a post on Instagram.

Cavendish was seen arguing with a mechanic ahead of the stage which saw Bahrain Victorious’s Matej Mohoric avoid a 20-man solo break to glory at Libourne.

The 36-year-old Briton started the day kissing Eddy Merckx with the two cycling greats past and present locked together on 34 Tour stage wins each.

But Cavendish had to wait for another stage victory on Friday and was visibly upset with his bike in front of the stage as he rushed into the team bus in anger in front of spectators.

Cavendish has apologized for his actions and insists that there is no problem between him and anyone on the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team.

“Many of you will have seen the video since the start of today’s stage,” he wrote.

“During a day of the Tour de France, as riders, we were put in a perilous situation and I wanted my bike to be perfect, in order to help me stay safe.

“My bike had some problems when I rode it this morning. Despite that, I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did and not so publicly.

“I have been an extremely close friend of my mechanics for over a decade and they have worked tirelessly to make sure I have always been safe and successful. Although they know how much I can be short when i’m stressed out, no one especially your loved ones deserve to have a voice addressed to them.

“Truly one of the biggest factors in the success of the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team is that we are a family, that we love and care for each other, and conversations should be kept within this family.

“We have now talked about what happened and as a group the Wolfpack will do their best to successfully complete the Tour de France 2021.”
