Morikawa praises fans after second round 64 at Open
Follow all the action live from round three as the 2021 Open continues at Royal St George’s.
Louis Oosthuizen takes a two-stroke lead in the third round after breaking the Open scoring record halfway through with rounds of 64 and 65, but a tucked field remains in pursuit. This pack is led by Collin Morikawa, who himself recorded a stunning 64 on Friday, while 2017 champion Jordan Spieth is a step further as he aims to win his fifth major. Several other top players also made great strides on Friday, with world No.1 Dustin Johnson starting just four strokes back, while Brooks Koepka’s run is barely run either, with six strokes separating him from the top. of the rank.
Andy Sullivan and Paul Casey remain in the running, although the odds of ending England’s 52-year wait for a home winner appear likely to continue. Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy are among the early starters after disappointing performances. The weather on Sandwich is beautifully sunny and it promises to be another low scoring day. Follow all the live action below:
OPEN 2021: SPIETH TAKES A LEADING SHARE
Spieth takes a part of the head! The American started in exquisite form and a brilliant long iron in the 7th par-5 saw him come away with a long eagle putt. It’s tails in the line but stops just before the hole for a birdie tap-in. He joined Oosthuizen at -7. At his side, Frittelli is also making progress. His eagle putt catches the lip but refuses to fall. Nevertheless, a second birdie of the day brings the South African to -9.

OPEN 2021: OOSTHUIZEN SAVES THE PAR TO SIX
Oosthuizen got a little aggressive with his sixth par-3 putt and dropped to one knee. He shows few nerves though, and he’s another peer for the South African.

OPEN 2021: MORE PROBLEMS FOR MORIKAWA
Morikawa fights there and his car is pulled towards the bunker. He stays outside but leaves a terrible lie on his lips. He almost falls as he takes out the ball, he flies to the left and almost goes out of bounds. He produced a brilliant pitch to give himself a par chance, but the putt went wide and it was his second missed shot in five holes.

OPEN 2021: SPIETH REBOUNDS AT SIX
After that somewhat unfortunate bogey in the fifth, Spieth immediately responded with an impeccable approach in the sixth par-3. He leaves a very doable birdie putt and pushes it in with conviction to come back to -10.

OPEN 2021: SPIETH RETURNS TO -9
After a perfect start, Spieth ran into trouble in the fifth after his approach trickled to the back of the green. It can’t go up and down and it’s a bug.
Back in fourth, Oosthuizen goes up and down with more success to continue a steady stream of pars. Morikawa’s better approach gives him a great birdie chance, but the putt dives and dives just to death and catches the lip.

OPEN 2021: SPIETH PASSAGE TO -10
It was Spieth who put Oosthuizen under pressure from the start. The American plays formidably and drains a 25-foot putt on the fourth stroke to move less than one stroke.
In contrast, Morikawa seems to be a shadow of himself. While he couldn’t fail with his irons yesterday, he was forced to another tricky save in third after a tee off at par-3.

OPEN 2021: MORIKAWA BOGEYS SECOND
Morikawa can’t escape the second and drops a shot. The 2020 PGA Champion got off to a somewhat shaky start after such relentless precision yesterday.
Meanwhile, on the 10th par-4, Danny Willett just landed the eagle from the semi-rough! This brings the Englishman to -6.

OPEN 2021: MORIKAWA SAVES IT FIRST
Morikawa found the front bunker early and faced a test save. He played a nice shot in the sand which ran a few yards from the flag. The American missed a few of those at the end of his lap yesterday, but shows no nerves and shakes him deep in the hole. Oosthuizen saw the birdie, but his putt remained high.

OPEN 2021: SPIETH ENTERS AN AMAZING APPROACH IN SECOND
Jordan Spieth dragged his tee shot into the long rough but hits a stunning approach in the second hole. Unable to control the rotation, he struck it just before the green from where it trickled down to reach of the flag. That should take the 2017 champion to -9 and just two shots back.

OPEN 2021: SMITH AND GRILLO GO TO -7
Cameron Smith is three under par on his first seven holes and is now -7. Emiliano Grillo, who had a superb 64 yesterday, is also on this mark after continuing his momentum with a birdie in the second.
Meanwhile, off the first tee, our latest duo of Louis Oosthuizen and Collin Morikawa prepare to start their third round.
