The Toronto Maple Leafs were not expected to be a buyer before the expansion draft given what appeared to be tough decisions regarding the protection roster. However, they caused a stir with a deal filed just before the list was frozen. Toronto has acquired Jared mccann of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who had long been expected to protect McCann before rumors of the last few days suggested otherwise. In exchange, the Penguins receive only a seventh-round pick and a prospect before Philippe Hallander, who the team first drafted and then distributed to the Maple Leafs last summer in the Kasperi Kapanen Trade.
