Man shot dead in Portland’s Parkrose neighborhood, police say

A man was shot dead in Portland’s Parkrose neighborhood on Saturday, police said.

The man, who was shot around 6:30 a.m. in the 11300 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard, is one of two people killed in the Portland shooting on Saturday.

No arrests were made in either incident, and police did not release suspicious information as of early Saturday afternoon.

The identity of the man killed in northeast Portland will be released after the Oregon state medical examiner performs an autopsy, police said.

The shooting came just hours after at least seven people were shot dead in downtown Portland. The person who was most seriously injured, a woman who has not been publicly identified, later died in a hospital. The other known bullet victims are expected to survive.

Portland has had more than 50 homicides in 2021, including two fatal shootings by police. There were 55 homicides in 2020, according to an Oregonian / OregonLive analysis. This year, the city is on track to record more homicides than its peak of 70 in 1987.
