Catt Sadler has appeared on Instagram Live to talk about her battle with COVID-19, which she contracted after caring for her unvaccinated 20-year-old son.

The entertainment reporter took the opportunity last week to announce that although he was fully vaccinated with Moderna vaccines.

“I am fully vaccinated and have Covid,” Sadler captioned his post. “I am telling you this so that you understand that the pandemic is not over at all. Delta caught me even after I was vaccinated.”

At the time, Sadler said she was caring for her son, who had the virus. Yet, the podcast host said, it has become one of the rare but possible “breakthrough” cases, with symptoms including extreme congestion, fever and severe fatigue.

Sadler appeared on an Instagram Live with Katie Couric and emergency doctor Jeremy Faust on Friday to discuss his surprising COVID-19 case.

“At first I was so shocked because I thought, ‘What? I am vaccinated, ”she explained. “I have been exposed more than the average person, but I feel like there are so many people who did the right thing and got the vaccine but are walking around with this false sense of security.”

Although she said it was her son’s “personal choice” not to get the vaccine, she admitted that she wanted “him to come to the other side.”

“I have spoken to a lot of my followers, mothers who say ‘I have the same problem, my grown children resist,'” Sadler said. “He’s just holding on, he was skeptical and then he gets sick. It’s not like I mean, I told you, but it’s going through my head.”

While Sadler is on the mend now, she said she emphasized to her son that choosing to stay unvaccinated “doesn’t just affect you.”

“Your choices really have an effect on those around you,” she explained. “It’s not just about you. So I would ask people to remember that when making their decision.”

Sadler recently explained how, despite the situation, she and her son – whom she shares with ex-husband Kyle Boyd – “still love each other deeply.”

“I don’t kick him out, castigate him or blame him for his choice, even though it had a direct negative effect on me,” she continued. “And he doesn’t mind that I share our story publicly. We are both entitled to our individual choices and while he does not support my choice to get the vaccine, he does not laugh at me, brutalize me or kick me when I am away. Earth.

She also encouraged people to be kinder to each other.

“I guess what I’m getting at is, hasn’t it gone too far?” Cyberbullying ? The disconnection between humanity today? Isn’t that exhausting? she wrote. “Don’t you want to live in a world where you can lay down your armor and give it some rest?” Isn’t it possible to have a healthy debate rather than destroy yourself to the core? “
