The UFC was in a generous mood after Saturday’s show.
In addition to a Fight of the Night prize, four Performance of the Night bonuses were also presented at UFC Vegas 31 for a total of six bonus checks, two more than usual. Billy Quarantillo and Gabriel Benitez won $ 50,000 each for the fight of the night, while Miesha Tate, Mateusz Gamrot, Rodolfo Vieira and Rodrigo Nascimento also received a five-figure bonus for completing their fights.
Quarantillo sidelined Benitez in the third round of the main card opener, but not before the two featherweights had a frenzied fight that saw the two score knockdowns. In the end, it was Quarantillo who took the win, his fourth in five UFC appearances.
Tate arguably stole the show when he returned from retirement after an almost five-year hiatus from competition. The former UFC bantamweight champion looked like she didn’t miss a beat as she mixed her strike perfectly with her wrestling before finishing Marion Reneau with strikes in the third and sending Reneau to retirement.
Gamrot and Vieira picked up bonuses for their submission wins from Jeremy Stephens and Dustin Stoltzfus, respectively, while Nascimento opened the UFC Vegas 31 prelims with a superb TKO return from Alan Baudot.
