“I still shave my head at monumental times in my life.”
Hey, do you remember the song “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith?
I’m asking because the hit pop song was released in 2010, which seems like a billion years ago at this point, and was recorded when Willow was only nine years old.
Well, in a recent live performance to celebrate his new pop punk record Lately I feel it all, Willow did a rock version of the song – oh yeah, and shaved her head for it.
In a prior interview, Willow said this was the third time she has shaved her head, adding, “I always shave my head at monumental times in my life, when things really change, and that’s one of those times. “
Enter a person with clippers while Willow plays the guitar:
And, my god, does head shaving look happy:
Of course, the end result looks amazing:
Although Willow said she went through phases of regret in the song, she has now realized that the song thematically – if not sonically – matches her music’s message of self-esteem. “The central idea of ’Whip My Hair’ is the central idea of all my music. The genre changes, but I say the same thing every time,” she remarked.
Anyway, I’m going to have a cup of tea in my pajamas – I mean, do something amazingly punk rock too.
