Anthony Rizzo begins as Willson Contreras rests

The Cubs go for the candy in Arizona. STOP THE SHOPS! (I’m kidding, I’m kidding). Here’s David Ross’ lineup for the finale, featuring the second leading man in a post-Joc Pederson world.

Composition of the Chicago Cubs:

1. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
2. Kris Bryant, LF
3. Java Baez, SS
4. Patrick Sagesse, 3B
5. Jason Heyward, RF
6. Jake Marisnick, CF.
7. Nico Hoerner, 2B
8. Robinson Chirinos, C.
9. Zach Davies, P

Merrill Kelly starts for the Diamondbacks this afternoon, and although he’s right-handed, his fellow right-handed (.346 wOBA) have hit him much better than left-handed this year (.284 wOBA). That said, righties hit more and walk less, but they make a lot more contact and punch for a lot more power. Just something to remember as you enjoy this finale.

As for the batting order, Anthony Rizzo is back in first place. However, I think it’s a product of the fact that Willson Contreras isn’t into programming (as opposed to David Ross actually committing to it). Contreras is probably resting regularly. Beyond that, your outfield consists of Kris Bryant, Jake Marisnick, and Jason Heyward from left to right.

Nico Hoerner is on second base and Robinson Chirinos is behind the plate.

As usual, we’ll have your full pre-game post closer to playtime (3:10 CT).
