White House press secretary Jen Psaki threw the first pitch at Nationals Park on Sunday, a day after a shootout outside the stadium interrupted the game in the sixth inning.

Video of the moment posted on Twitter by the Deputy Press Officer Chris Meagher, reveals a large number of empty seats at the park.

Psaki, who was slated for top honors before Saturday’s shooting cleared the park, stood in front of the pitcher’s mound but managed to make it to plate – a big improvement over Dr. Anthony Fauci last year.

Fauci’s bid collapsed to the ground far from home in June of last year.

The Washington Nationals announced on Friday that Psaki will pitch the first pitch before a game between the Nats and the San Diego Padres.

The announcement came ahead of the team’s “William & Mary Day”, which honors the Virginia press secretary’s alma mater.

On Saturday night, a shootout outside the stadium that left three people injured, including a fan, brought the match to a halt in the sixth round, with play resuming on Sunday.
