Morikawa’s girlfriend Katherine Zhu congratulated him in a sweet Instagram post.

“So incredibly proud of you!” she wrote. “You’ve accomplished so much since turning pro in 2019 and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Zhu is a former college golf champion herself. Last year, she and Morikawa talked about being a competitive couple.

Morikawa is the second player to win the Open Championship and PGA Championship before turning 25, according to ESPN Stats & Info. He joined Tiger Woods to take the plunge. It was his first time playing at the event, much like it was his first time playing at the PGA Championship when he won the tournament last year.

He played the last 31 holes at Royal St. George’s without a bug. He started the final round of the tournament one stroke behind the leader and finished two strokes in front of Spieth.

COLLIN MORIKAWA WINS THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP, ITS SECOND MAJOR TITLE

Morikawa’s score was the lowest of the 15 times the Open Championship has been played at Royal St. George’s. He got a 66 in the final round after shooting a 67 in the first, a 64 in the second and a 68 in the third.

“When you make history, it’s hard to grasp, it’s hard to really understand … At 24, it’s so hard to look back on the two short years that I was a pro and to see what I did because I want more, “he said.

Morikawa finished the tournament 15 under par. Spieth was 13 cents while Rahm and Oosthuizen finished 11 cents. South African pro Dylan Frittelli completed the top five with a 9-minus.

Spieth won the Valero Texas Open earlier in the season and finished second in the Charles Schwab Challenge. Rahm had just claimed a victory at the US Open while Oosthuizen finished second in the PGA Championship and the US Open.
