A Bose QC35 update to the popular noise canceling headphones has been revealed by an FCC filing, as QC45. Only two visible changes are observed …

The case of the Bose QuietComfort 45 (QC 45) draws heavily on its predecessors in recent years and apparently continues to rely on a foldable design and synthetic leather ear cushions.
From a purely visual point of view, only the switch to a USB-C port and a color variant in white or ivory seems to have taken place. So the most important innovations should be under the hood of wireless headphones.
It will be interesting to see if and how Bose can assert itself with its QC 45 against top competitors such as the Sony WH-1000XM4 and its predecessor, the XM3.
The QC35 headphones were once the default choice for travelers, with the lightweight and comfortable ear cups making them comfortable for extended use, while active noise cancellation was the best in the business. If you were taking a long haul flight, these are the headphones you wanted.
Noise cancellation, portability, and sound quality are monster gains. I can recommend them wholeheartedly [and] are already planning to buy new ones (money next time) if / when Bose collects these loans.
Other brands have caught up, however, with Sony and Bowers & Wilkins offering competing models. The noise cancellation of the Sony WH-1000XM4 exceeded that of the QC35, and the B&W PX7 matched that performance while delivering unmatched audio quality.
Bose itself has launched the top-of-the-line Model 700, while the QC45 looks set to provide a useful update to the QC35, including replacing the microUSB charging port with a USB-C port.
There is no release date information yet, but FCC filings generally appear relatively close to launch, so we can probably expect to see them go on sale in the next few months.
