Estevan Florial gets another shot to help the exhausted Yankees outfield.

After passing him for promotion several times over the past week, the Yankees called Florial on Tuesday before hosting the Phillies. The former top prospect took the place of recently called up Trey Amburgey, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with right hamstring strain suffered in Sunday’s win over the Red Sox.

The call is the third in Florial’s career – the other two being one-match cameos, with the last one in May. The 23-year-old, whose development has been hampered by injury in recent years, beat .211 with eight homers and a .719 OPS in 43 games with Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre.

Since returning to Triple-A in May, Florial has been waiting for another blow while lately seeing other SWB outfielders seize their opportunity. Since the All-Star lonely hiatus, the Yankees have called on Amburgey, Greg Allen and Ryan LaMarre to provide outside depth of field while even using another new call, Hoy Park, into right field for part of a game. .

“The most important thing for [Florial] is [staying] healthy and having those regular reps, ”Boone said on Sunday. “He’s definitely had some ups and downs there, but the most important thing is that he was able to play consistently. Hopefully he’s in store for a big second half.

“[Florial’s] development is important. The guys who have been called up so far have lined up and earned this spot. “

Amburgey, meanwhile, became the sixth Yankees outfielder to hit the IL, joining Aaron Judge (COVID), Aaron Hicks (end of season wrist surgery), Clint Frazier (vision), Miguel Andujar (wrist) and Tim Locastro (ACL tear).
