The New iPad Mini Could Replace Your Laptop

A new look isn’t the only change we expect to see with the iPad mini this fall. According to a 9at 5Mac Report, the smaller iPad will have an A15 processor, a USB-C port and a magnetic Smart Connector. It would be a major boost in his computing power, but also means that you could possibly use the smaller iPad as a replacement for a laptop.

Citing anonymous Apple sources, 9to5Mac claims the A15 chip, which will also power the iPhone 13 lineup, will feature the same 5nm processing technology as the A14. Another interesting piece of information is that Apple is allegedly working on an even more powerful A15X variant. the fifiPad m th generationini is powered by an A12 chip, which also powers the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and the eighte-gen iPad and thiThird generation iPad Air. There have been several A-series chips since the introduction of the A12 Bionic in 2018 – the A12X, A12Z, A13, and A14 to be exact – so that jump should be significant.

Moving 7nm to 5nm may not be super dramatic. It’s a clue, however, that Apple has high hopes for the iPad mredesign ini. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is intends to only upgrade the entry-level iPad’s A12 to an A13, which isn’t a huge boost.

The addition of USB-C and a smart connector is further proof that Apple is trying to give people more reasons to choose a smaller iPad. To begin with, this opens the iPad mini up to a much wider range of devices and make it more iPad Pro and iPad Air compliant. The smart connector also hints that maybe we could see a tiny little keyboard to go along with the little iPad.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg also reported that the iPad Mini is due to undergo a major overhaul that would remove the home button and feature thinner bezels. Due to these changes, rreliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says he’s waiting for the iPad mthe ini display to jump from the current 7.9 inches to between 8.5 and 9 inches.

A bigger screen, more compatibility with accessories and peripherals, a faster processor? These changes, along with the fact that iPadOS 15 will bring some nifty multitasking and productivity features? Looks like Apple is really trying to sell us on the iPad mini as the working device. This is hardly surprising. Apple has worked to make every iPad a more attractive purchase, though with mixed results. Who knows? This might be exactly what Apple’s smallest tablet needs.
