This is what the new C8 Corvette Z06 looks like when zooming in on a track

After more than a year of rumors, Chevrolet has finally announced that the C8 Corvette Z06 will debut this fall.

The Detroit automaker kicked off the week by confirming the existence of the first high-performance variant of the mid-engined Vette, which will arrive as a 2023 model. The brand is not yet ready to reveal what the vehicle will look like. , but she did offer a teaser of what her specially designed powerhouse looks like. The answer: glorious.

A 25-second clip posted to the brand’s YouTube page on Monday features the first official look at the long-awaited speed machine. From its point of view shot of the new Z06, the car itself is not visible as it rips through the circuit of the Circuit of Americas in Austin, TX. As disappointing as it may be, the growl of its naturally aspirated V8 revving up and accelerating more than makes up for it. If the video is to be believed, the C8 Z06 will look more like a Ferrari than any of its American counterparts, even the current C8 Stingray.

It’s no surprise that the new Z06’s engine can roar. It has been widely reported that the high-performance variant will be equipped with a powerful 5.5-liter DOHC flat-crank V8 engine that can spin up to 9,000 rpm and produce 617 hp. It’s slightly less powerful than the supercharged V-8 from the C7 Z06, but that would make the mill the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 on the market, according to Road & Track. It would also be significantly more powerful than the C8 Stingray’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8, which produces 490 horsepower and 465 ft-lbs of torque.

A more powerful engine won’t be the only difference between the two C8s. Spy video and photos of the C8 Z06 under test suggest that it will also have a subtly reworked body. It seems likely that it will feature even more intense aero elements and a larger rear spoiler.

We’ll certainly find out this fall, when Chevrolet promises to unveil the new Z06. No pricing information has been released, but it is expected to cost up to $ 25,000 more than the C8 Stingray’s starting price of $ 59,900. Even so, we can’t imagine that ardent Vette loyalists would care to pay that kind of premium for a road-approved sports car that promises quality track performance.
