THE DOOR, Texas – The La Porte emergency management office issued an evacuation order for some residents and shelter-in-place for others on Wednesday following reports of a “process disruption” from Dow Chemical.

Emergency officials have asked residents of all areas east of the Bay Area to shelter in place at this time. An evacuation order has been issued within a 0.5 mile radius of 13300 Bay Area Blvd.

Dow Chemical, Bayport, located at 13300 Bay Area Blvd., said at 7:27 a.m. that a “process disruption” incident had occurred at the facility.

At present, the company said emergency vehicles and sirens could be noticeable by the community.

“We are coordinating with local authorities and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” Dow Chemical said in a statement. “Stay tuned to local authorities for more information. “

Residents who have been invited to take shelter in place are asked to turn off their air conditioning at this time. Drivers were told to roll up their windows, turn off the air conditioning and try to avoid the area.
